Sibling co-founders Jasmin and Simeon were appointed to redesign the Deluxe guestrooms at The Capital Hotel through Sibling’s sister company, JSJ Design.

The Capital has to be one of London’s best kept secrets. Often described as a grand hotel in miniature, the Victorian-style building epitomises the boutique hotel experience with its thoughtful service and quintessential British charm.

Storytelling through design

Jasmin and Simeon introduced beautiful art-led décor, inspired by Knightsbridge’s vibrant history and the Pre-Raphaelites who lived and worked in the area around the time of the Great Exhibition.

The new-look Deluxe guestrooms, which opened last year, take their names and colourways from paintings by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, furnishings reflect architectural shapes found in nearby Harrods, and narrative-led artworks connect past and present. It’s a design scheme that’s firmly anchored in place and time.

As part of the renovation, Jasmin and Simeon evolved two custom lighting pieces to complement the rooms’ elevated sense of heritage luxury.

Lovell - a three arm uplighter pendant

Lovell is an elegant addition to the ceilings of the Capital’s newly refurbished rooms. A three-arm pendant light handcrafted from brushed brass, it’s a subtle yet sophisticated addition to the rooms’ painterly design concept. From the same family as Sibling’s signature launch collection, ACORN, Lovell features lookalike spinning, without ACORN’s distinctive slots.

Maxima - a classic linear wall light with an emergency sensor

In addition to the hotel’s guestrooms, JSJ were appointed to redesign the corridors leading to them, and this is where Maxima comes in.

A bespoke wall mural inspired by a landscape painting by Pre-Raphaelite artist Sir John Everett Millais wraps around the grand stairwell. Made up of twenty-six photos of deciduous woodland, knitted together seamlessly, guests are given the sensation of stepping into another world as they climb the stairs to bed.

A long, linear wall light of fluted glass with an oiled bronze finish, Maxima complements the forest scenes in the Capital’s corridors without distracting. Part industrial lines, part art deco charm, this angular wall light was fitted with an emergency sensor activated in the event of a power cut - an important fire safety requirement for commercial buildings. We've now built this feature in as an optional extra at the checkout.

The Capital showcases the single bulb version, but a larger two-bulb iteration is also available for a longer spread of light.

The next chapter…

JSJ have been reappointed to refurbish the Capital’s Superior guestrooms and Junior Suites and are currently in the process of creating new lights to accompany their designs; watch this space.
